This particular phone is Mahagany bakelite. Mahogany was one of the colors you could special order back then.
This rather pristine telephone is rare because most of these did not have 24Kt gold plated hardware which could be specially ordered in the 1920s .
Many had nickel plated or painted brass bands and some liked to polish the brass handset bands which was never original.
This is a very good example of art deco. The stylish bakelite Type 38 handset with the spit cup has had its 24KT gold plated bands .
The finger wheel has 24Kt gold plating as as well. All bakelite has been polished to a high gloss. There is no damage or issues with this rather pristine phone. The telephone comes with matching black cloth covered cords .
We have been restoring antique telephones for over 20 years and we love what we do and it shows.
