The single battery for sale is a reproduction of the Columbia label #6 dry cell battery manufactured by the National Carbon Company, and first commercially produced in 1896. NCC was the sole source of this product for the auto industry and telephone companies in the early 1900s. In the early years of production of the #6 dry cells, the terminals were the carbon slab binding post type as shown on these reproductions.
If you have a Western Electric 317 Cathedral Top/Picture Frame Front wall phone, this reproduction dry cell/Columbia label would be historically correct for display inside. Western Electric did not begin producing its' first Blue Bell series label #6 until around 1911.
These reproductions are configured to produce 1.5V each with two D-Cell battery holders (wired in parallel) featuring bottom entry access to allow easy replacement of the batteries (not included) when necessary. A removable PVC Cap covers the bottom. Dimensions (7-3/8”H X 2-1/2” Dia.), label graphics and colors are nominally consistent with the original dry cell equipped with the carbon slab center terminal. Weight is one pound. Potting material on top is epoxy.
